Answers to some commonly asked questions
Do I need to bring anything to yoga class?
Some students like to bring their own mat, but it isn't necessary. We are a fully equipped studio and have everything you will need for class including: mats, blankets, belts, blocks, chairs and more.
Where can I park my car (or bike)?
Most folks park on Fratney Street just south of Locust. There is usually plenty of parking within a half a block of the studio. There is also a place to lock up your bike right outside the studio door.
How do I pay for classes or events?
Our RY Crew are all independent contractors so they may have different ways for you to pay or donate funds to them. They all should have this information on their google calendar event and/or on their sign ups. Contact them directly for more information.
Is there anything I should know about RY before I come?
Our community is welcoming. Our space is unpretentious. We are run by volunteers. The studio vibe is similar to a Waldorf or Montessori school. We see uniqueness and beauty in everyone that comes into our space. We're on the second floor, climb up the stairs, take off your shoes and come in with an open mind and an open heart.

A few student testimonials
"RW Yogashala welcomes all individuals at any level of interest and experience. It is a quintessential Riverwest establishment offering a holistic approach to nurturing healthy bodies and minds. I took my first yoga class here over 15 years ago. I have been a regular student ever since, benefitting from physical and mental challenges as well as the yogashala's warm, relaxed community. I am thankful for certified yoga instructor Tracey Radloff’s ability to connect yoga with everyday routines/movements that enhance an overall quality of life." - Paul, 59
“my first class at the yogashala was an introduction to inversions with Tracey. It was a treat for reaching 1.5 years of sobriety and I enjoyed practicing yoga at home and with other teachers, although I was not yet familiar with Iyengar. I left that first class blown away by Tracey’s knowledge and dedication to her students as well as the immediate therapeutic benefits of Iyengar yoga. In the last year and a half I’ve fallen in love with this practice and all of its wonderful challenges. The classes here are an instrumental part of my mental health care and I can’t recommend them enough for folks struggling with their mental health, sobriety, or a trauma history.. The yogashala brings light and nourishment both to my life and to Riverwest. “ -Natalie, 31
“I moved to Milwaukee in 2014, and as an Australian, I was seeking a warm place to care for my body and mind. I was fairly new to yoga, and found Riverwest Yogashala a truly welcoming and fun community of people, all of whom came from different walks of life and had varied abilities. The classes are really affordable, accessible, and playful! No matter how little you know about yoga, this is the perfect place to gain strength, flexibility, and peace of mind.” -Ann-Marie, 39
"A true beginners class for folks seeking strength and healing! I spent years doing calisthenics and weightlifting and while my body looked fit, I wasn’t getting any stronger. I switched to yoga and my body is forever grateful. Tracey’s classes have increased my physical awareness, making my workouts safer and more productive. I walk out of every class feeling energetic and emotionally grounded. Each session is tailored to the students’ bodies and needs, which I think is why I see so many returning faces every week. If you are looking for a safe and supportive community to begin your practice with; I highly recommend Tracey’s Yoga Fundamentals: All Levels." -Marina, 27
"Riverwest Yogashala has always represented safety to me. My daughter Sally was the first family member to join the studio at the age of 14 in the teen class. When I saw how much the classes were FUN and healthy for her, I was close behind. I have seen RY evolve from a newer nonprofit yoga studio in 2008 to a beacon of the Riverwest community in 2023. I have served a few terms as Board Member, was an administrator for many years in the mid-2000s and currently clean the studio in exchange for class! RY is obviously an important part of my life. I currently take class with Tracey Radloff, who is such a fun and engaging teacher. I see her navigate the various injuries and physical & emotional needs of students in every class, checking in with folks along the way. She is constantly learning and "reinventing" yoga, not only for her own edification but to share with her devoted students. I don't know where I'd be without my many years of safety and nurturing at RY!" - Kelly, 54
